To apply for a grant, organizations must be selected or invited by the Țiriac International Foundation (TIF). The Foundation primarily works through a proactive, area-based approach — identifying needs in specific regions (especially Brașov and other priority areas), and collaborating with NGOs that have proven capacity to deliver results in education and sports. In some cases, calls for proposals may be managed by partners, which oversee small grant programs for local initiatives.

Applicants must align with TIF’s priority areas and demonstrate organizational capacity, potential for impact, sustainability, and community involvement.

Projects should meet several key criteria:

  • Target disadvantaged children and youth, particularly in rural or deprived areas.
  • Improve educational outcomes, reduce dropout rates, and enhance school engagement.Integrate sports as part of child development and education.
  • Involve local stakeholders: schools, NGOs, local authorities, social and health services.
  • Offer innovative or replicable approaches, with strong potential for sustainability.
  • Include both formal and non-formal education activities.
  • Be cost-effective and ideally build local capacity (training, mentorship, knowledge-sharing).

For the requests related to pillars other than education, NGOs and institutions are recommended to address to our Romanian local partners Fundatia Țiriac – for sports and Fundatia Dumbrava Minunata for social and health care matters.

To become a partner, an organization must align with TIF’s mission, values, and focus areas.

Partnerships are formed with NGOs, community foundations, private sector entities, academic institutions, and public authorities that demonstrate a commitment to education, sports, or social care initiatives. TIF favors collaboration with partners who:

  • Have experience and credibility in working with vulnerable communities.
  • Are willing to co-design and implement solution-oriented programs.
  • Can contribute funds, expertise, or logistical support.
  • Have a long-term commitment and ability to build local ecosystems.

Initial engagement usually begins through direct outreach or identification by TIF, followed by collaboration in selected projects.

No. Țiriac International Foundation only provides grants to NGOs and institutions mainly within the strategic scope of its philanthropic focus. These include:

  • Grants for holistic educational programs working with schools (administrators and teachers), working with children through in-school and extracurricular activities,  with parents and with the broader community.
  • Support for access to sports, organized competitions and events (national and international).
  • The medical treatments are covered only through the existing programs (physical rehabilitation, surgeries, therapies) exclusively for children and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.

While TIF may consider diverse sponsorship requests, they must align with the Foundation’s strategic areas: education, sports, social/healthcare support (especially in Brașov), and environmental responsibility. All sponsorships are evaluated based on impact, relevance, and alignment with long-term goals.

Yes, after the project has been approved, Tiriac International Foundation is requesting a set of organizational, legal, financial, tax, and anti–money-laundering compliance documents to verify the organization’s identity, structure, governance, legal standing, financial condition, and regulatory compliance.
